The Powercoil has been improved for 2004 by optimizing the torsional profile (the amount the shaft twists at different locations along its length) in each flex so these is a Powercoil shaft for every golfer.
Like its
predecessor, the new Powercoil is designed with a high modulus carbon fiber
surface layer oriented in a spiral direction down the shaft for more uniform
bending properties during the swing. This "Hoop Wind" virtually eliminates
the oscillation of the head resulting in more consistent contact and reduced
shot dispersion. The Powercoil surface layer is oriented in a direction that
allows it to load in tension while the club is being twisted during the swing.
This imparts a tightening of the outer fibers for a more efficient energy transfer
to the ball and greater distance. And since left-handed golfers twist the shaft
in the opposite direction, the surface is spiraled in the opposite direction
on the "left-handed" shafts.
